Guess what? Field Day 2019 is only 6 weeks from this weekend!
Field Day is your chance to get out all that gear you rely on for Emergency Communications. That’s not just radios but all the other things that can make or break a deployment. Are your batteries charged? Is that solar panel still in the bag? Did you put those BNC to PL-259 adapters back in your go bag? Does your bug spray actually spray? You made a cool new portable antenna. Does it work like you hope it will?
Field Day is the time to get all this gear out and test it…… In the Field! It’s a chance to meet up with friends, check out the latest gear, share ideas, test your gear and Yes, relax. So start going through your bags, boxes of tent spikes and rope and check that you have everything you need. 6 weeks is not that far away. It might take you a weekend or two to figure out what your missing. Then another weekend or two to get it ordered and delivered.
As with the last few years, we will once again be in the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area. Same spot as before. 38°44’49.7″N 108°37’09.0″W
You don’t have to plan out a long weekend. The location is less than an hour from Grand Junction. You can participate as much or as little as you want. You can come out for the day or camp for the weekend. Whether you bring a truck full of equipment or just your HT, you are more than welcome and we would be happy to see you. Some people even come up earlier in the week and camp for 3 or 4 days. No matter what, it will be a good time.
We will have a canopied area setup for the radios, relaxation and sophisticated conversations about new radios, antennas, the best hot dogs and general medical discussions. Just like you would here on HF! A porta-potty will be provided so no one has to suffer the “Same Tree” syndrome. It’s going to be a fun time and we hope you can all come out.
For detailed information about the event itself, visit the ARRL Field Day website.
From Grand Junction you will go South on Highway 50 to Highway 141, turning right. From Montrose, Delta, Olathe and points south, you will go North on Highway 50 and turn left onto Highway 141. From the turn off onto Highway 141, you will travel 14.3 miles to the brown sign that says Divide Road, turning to your left. Once on Divide Road you will travel approximately 9.5 miles on a dirt road to the WCARC Field Day site. Please note it is bumpy in some places and is dusty but other than that, the road is fairly well maintained.
You should see a sign that says Field Day. You will turn left onto a small dirt road. 1/10th of a mile down you will see the white portable radio tents, antennas and camp site.
