The Museum Ships Weekend is an international event sponsored by the Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station https://www.nj2bb.org/museum/. Museum ships and ship memorials around the world will be on the air celebrating the history and service of their respective ships. This event encourages radio operators to contact as many museum ships or ship memorials as possible, learn the history of the ships contacted, and commemorate both the ships and those who served upon them.
The Montrose Amateur Radio Club are participating in the 2025 Museum Ships Weekend by operating radio station N0P commemorating the service of the ship USS Montrose. The call sign N0P is to be used to simulate the ship’s original call sign of NPPP.
The USS Montrose was an attack transport that served with distinction in WW 2, Korea, and Vietnam. The ship’s memorial consists of an interpretive sign and the ship’s bell is currently located in the new City Hall on Main Street.
The Montrose ARC will operate their radio station from the pocket park diagonally across the street from City Hall. Good times for the public to visit us will be from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday and Sunday. We will operate outside these hours Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday, as band conditions and thunderstorms allow.
