Post Successful Exam — Process for New Amateur Radio Licensees

Congratulations on passing your Amateur Radio Technician Exam.

The following information is provided to aid in the process of getting your license from the FCC.

  • Your Volunteer Examiner (VE) team submits exam results on the same day as testing.
  • You will typically get an FCC email with a fee payment link by the next business day.
  • When paying your $35 application fee:
    • Use a desktop or laptop, as the FCC system often fails on mobile devices.
    • Ignore the Form 605 review link during fee payment—any accidental changes can void your digital signature and delay your license. Note: You already reviewed this application with the VE team prior to applying your digital signature.
  • Pay within 10 days of FCC database entry to avoid dismissal of your application.

After you pay the licensing fee, the FCC will typically send your new call sign and license download instructions by email within 24 hours.

Hints:

  • Make sure your browser has Popup Blocker Disabled for the FCC Website.
  • This site is slow – be patient waiting for new pages to load when clicking a link.

Upgraded Amateur Radio Licenses — General and Amateur Extra.

  • Your Volunteer Examiner (VE) team submits exam results on the same day as testing.
  • You will NOT receive and e-mail from the FCC.
  • You will NOT need to pay a $35.00 FCC licensing fee.
  • You will typically find your license upgraded in the FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS) within 1-2 business day of successfully passing your General or Amateur Extra test.
  • You will receive your Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) from the Examtools Application with a few hours of completing your test.
    • Once you’re have your CSCE you may use your new privileges simply by appending your call sign with /AG, for Awaiting General or /AE, for Awaiting Extra.
    • Once your upgraded license appears in the ULS you may drop the /AG or /AE from your call sign.
